Aroma Coffee Review

Australian Coffee the Best in the World

April 3rd, 2006

A very interesting article has appeared at news.com.au praising Australians and they’re taste for coffee as well as they’re coffee growing talent.

An interesting fact about Ian MacLaughlin, a coffee grower from Cairns:  he drinks 20 cups of coffee a day!

Now that is impressive.

Coffee Review averaging per Venue is now working

February 1st, 2006

A feature of the site that has been broken for a long time has now been fixed.  All reviews for a venue (if they are grouped properly, which is another job on my todo list) will now give an accurate average figure when viewing a review.

To test this out, take a look at these two reviews for Peet’s Coffee and Tea in San Francisco, one coffee review from yesterday has a score of 8/10 and one coffee review from today gives a score of 6/10.  Notice on both pages, the average is accurately reported as 7/10!  Yay!

Musings on San Francisco

January 30th, 2006

I didn’t get a chance to go to North Beach today, and I won’t get a chance now before I go.  I guess there is good coffee in San Francisco, judging by that guy’s cup from yesterday, but it is only in one small location.

San Francisco is packed full of Starbucks coffee houses and similar places like Tully’s Coffee and Peet’s Coffee and Tea.  Now, I don’t know the background or story of any of these places.  But, from what I see, Starbucks does not place real coffee as a value.  It likes to sell flavoured syrups and other such terrible coffee crimes.  Tully’s just looks like it’s trying to be a mini-me for Starbucks.

The only one I can give credit to is Peet’s.  Now, I haven’t really spent much time studying them, but it seems they do value good coffee.  I remember reading a sign in the store that mentioned that all coffee served has been roasted less than 24 hours ago.  Not many cafe’s in Melbourne can claim that!

All in all however, it seems this city claims to be diverse and multicultural and enjoys the good things in life, like good coffee.  But the truth is, overall, this city does not respect fine coffee.  In most area’s of the city, it’s either Starbucks and it’s friends or the small cafe which wouldn’t know a good coffee if it bit them on the…  Well, you get the picture.

I’ll be glad to be back in Melbourne, sipping another great coffee at my favourite place.  If you live in Melbourne, know that you are blessed.

Version 3.5 from San Francisco

January 29th, 2006

San Francisco (thumbnail)Well, this week has been a big one for Aroma Coffee Review. Firstly, all this week, I have been actively reviewing coffee in San Francisco, California, United States of America! I can tell you this much, the coffee does not stack up to Melbourne’s. I am severely craving for a good coffee. Today I was cruising around Union Square and I saw a guy with a cup of coffee with the “Illy” logo on it. I asked him where he got it from, and he said North Beach. North Beach is pretty much Little Italy, so I’m going to go and hunt around for a good coffee there tomorrow.

While I have been sitting around in a hotel room between working and sight-seeing, I was inspired to do a little work on the site. Version 3.5 of Aroma Coffee Review has gone live over the weekend. The new features include a new design, our own domain (http://aromacoffeereview.com) and a blog to keep in touch. I plan to add a few touches here and there mainly in the presentation of the site to polish it off a little, they’ll be coming along shortly.

If anyone reading this has been to San Francisco and knows of a good coffee place, please send me an e-mail at: coffee@aromacoffeereview.com

Also, if you’re a reviewer on the site and you’d like to write articles for this blog, just shoot me an e-mail and I will setup a login for you.
